The TSA maintains a current list on their website. Take a look at http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/editorial_1012.shtm and http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm

They now permit small amounts of shampoo and stuff if packed in small, clear bottles. You still can't bring on your machete or Japanese samurai sword collection.

IT WON'T EXPLODE! THE PLANE IS PRESSURIZED! The inside of the plane is pressurized, including the cargo hold. If not, your pet would have died in flight if its transported in the hold. Where are all you wizards suggesting the airline transport it that you all know it will explode? Do yo people just start typing before you think through ANY of this? Not so much the concern that it will rupture and explode from the pressure, but if that nozzle opens you'd fill the plane with noxious fumes and potentially an accelerant to a fire. Forget the fumes of a can of spray paint inside a plane, how about if you put a match in front of it? How about if the fumes hit a spark from an electrical connection like a light switch, inside the hold? All I can say is A-dyuh. Ok hope that helps!

I am a travel agent. Here is today's briefing:
========================================
Current as of Mon., Nov. 20, 2006 8:00 a.m. Central. Information is updated as it is received.

For all flights from and within the United States excluding flights departing from non - U.S. locations:

The Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security has determined that there is a high risk of terrorism against U.S. civil aviation, and there is a need for extra restrictions to assure the security of air travel.

Carry-on Baggage Restrictions:
On instruction from the Transportation Security Administration, Continental Airlines advises customers that the following items are permitted inside the sterile area through the screening checkpoint:

Liquids, gels and aerosols in small containers (3.4 oz. /100ml or less) in a clear re-sealable 1 quart/1 liter plastic bag. The bag with its contents must be subjected to inspection separate from carry-on bags.
Medications (including non-prescription medicine) without the requirement that the customer’s name appear on prescription medicine.
Baby formula/milk (to include breast milk), baby food, juice, medications, and liquids/gels that are needed for diabetic or other medical conditions if not contained in a closed/sealed transparent re-sealable 1 quart/1 liter plastic bag and/or if in containers larger than 3.4 oz. (100ml) each must be declared to the TSA at the security checkpoint for screening.
In U.S. domestic airports, liquids (to include beverages), gels and aerosols purchased in the sterile area of the airport may be taken on board the aircraft.

Customers may be subjected to a secondary screening if entering the screening checkpoint with liquids, gels and/or aerosols.

These measures apply to all scheduled and charter flight operations that operate to, from or within the United States and its territories and possessions. Local host country restrictions may vary by country.

I would suggest going to the website of the airline you are going to take. There will be a list of things you can and cannot bring.
