As a qualified vet with 14 years experience I can tell you there's only 2 things you can do to stop this.

firstly whenever your dog does a poo it is essential that you clear it up in a bag. This clearly removes the temptation at once.

secondly when the dog is not looking you must poo in the very same place as it did. If you are in a open park etc explain calmly to any passersby what has happened ( do make sure there are no empty tins of lager nearby or they might not believe you). Then firmly lead your pest to the spot where your poo now rests and carefully but calmly open the bag with it's poo and eat large chunks whilst it looks on in a state of abject jealousy.

At this point point to your poo and whilst still munching it's poo tell it to eat as much as it wants.

After it has finished take it home and give it a damn good french kiss for about an hour then go back to the park and repeat the same procedure.

If this fails I can recommend a friend of mine who is an animal pyschologist but I don't think her services will be necessary.

Pineapple?

You need to feed him Deter, which is available in pet stores. Also make sure he's on a good quality dog food. And supervise him so that he doesn't have the opportunity to eat it. Scoop it up right away.

Is that all??? Wanna swap dogs? Mine eats his poo and everything elses. We live on a farm with ducks, henz, cats, sheep and some cattle. They poop it, he eats it. Tell you what though, he's never been ill in his life so it can't be that bad for him. It's bad for us though. Where we've saved in medical vets bills we've more than made up for it in medicated dog shampoos. He's a stinker! None of this will help you but it might make you feel better about your dog!

Mone is not fussy at all. Eats any poo lying around. sooo disgusting. Really annoying me. First he would only eat our *****'s poo now it is progressing . I have been told by the vet the only way to stop them is to wear a harness, no ways am i putting a harness on my dogs face it is there to protect me. If you should find out how to stop your dog let me know as well.:))

iv got two dogs, the youngest one will go out in the garden, and if the oldest one poos she eats its very quickly before im able to clear it up. when i brought this up at the vets she told me that its an instinct in some dogs, has they do this in the wild to clean up their poos in the pack so predetors cant pick up the cent. she did say though that as the dog gets older it will hopefully stop.

Many puppies will eat their own stool. To stop this habit sprinkle Adolph's Meat Tenderizer on the stool. This should end the problem.

Dogs don't look at their poop the same way humans do. They look at it and say "Hmmm... looks like there's a piece of chicken there..." We need to remember dogs do not think like humans.

this is usually one of the following reasons IMO
lack of nutrients in the dogs regular diet
the dog is depressed for whatever reason
the dog is receiving junk food i.e chocolate etc. that are bad for him

try and keep consistant on ur dogs diet
immediately pick up stools for a week or 2

hope this helps

I used to have this problem with our hunting dogs. (Iwas a gamekeeper). It means that they are not getting enough roughage (green veg etc) in their diet. Try cutting up cabbage or broccoli in the food. It only took about 3 days and our dogs had stopped doing it.

Depending on the age of the dog and by what you say i think it must be a puppy,i cant imagine why they do this but it is very common in deed but thank goodness they grow out of this but unfortunately some take longer than others.

Try Forbid. It supposedly makes the poo taste so nasty they will not eat it. Although, I can't imagine it tasted that great in the first place! Here's a link to see what it is, you vet probably has some on hand or you can buy it from your favorite pet supply website.
