The wage tax is a city income tax used to fund the operation of city government. The good news is that the Philadelphia Wage Tax rates will be reduced for taxable compensation paid on or after January 1, 2006. The Philadelphia resident rate will be 4.301% and the non-resident rate will be 3.7716%.

It is a tax assessed by the city on wages and salaries of each person who works in the city. It is assessed against residents as well as non-residents.
I think that the rate is around two percent. It is just another way for the city to get more tax dollars from everyone to pay for the lack of serviecs that they provide
