will it cause the war to escalate and
how else will the mission be accomplished without it.
can't you see that there is no other choice if we have no more allies to help us out. it has already been hinted at by the military themselves

See my question--Don't we need a draft to relieve our over used Guard and Reserve units as well as our regular Army and Marine unitsin Iraq.?? I am Veteran who volunteered during Vietnam war. Listen to the troops --the brass sucks up to President

The idea that the draft will be reinstated is a pipe dream. I don't think it'd ever pass either house of congress and if it did, it would get a quick veto from the president with no hope of a 2/3 majority to override.

The mission could be accomplished by fighting the war the way it needs to be fought, by killing or capturing anybody involved in activity against us or the Iraqi government. This war has been fought far too politically and controlled too much by Rumsfeld. We need to let the leaders with boots on the ground make the decisions on how to carry out the mission.

And we have plenty of allies, the media just doesn't like to talk about them and they throw the word "unilateral" around a lot. Just take a look at the Combatants listed at this page on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_on_Terror

The draft is a good way to fight wars of 50 years ago. It is a lousy way to fight wars today. Today's military members are highly trained professionals. The days of giving a couple month's of training on firing a rifle and tossing a grenade, then sending men off to combat are long, long gone. In today's military, even the basic infantry is "high tech." You don't train someone to operate and maintain highly sophisticated military equipment overnight. It takes a minimum of 18 months to 2 years to turn out a trained Soldier, Airman, Sailor, or Marine. It takes even longer than that for many military specialties.

According to the Selective Service, if a draft were implemented today, it would take 193 days for the first inductee to report in. After that, it would take another 12 to 18 months to train them and form them into new combat units. In short, if we instituted a draft today, inductees would not be effective until about two years from now (at which time, their two year service commitment would be over).

The draft is no longer a cost effective way to recruit service members.

Here's a question: Would the draft include women? Probably since the military includes women now. What would that mean for our country? That would mean EVERY person between 18 and 45 would be eligible for the draft. I don't think America can afford to lost that kind of manpower in our economy. Our hospitals and schools would suffer greatly. We couldn't afford to reinstate the draft. Or we'd make it volunteer for wome, mandatory for men, then there'd be a discrimination suit and it goes on and on. Draft would also not be good for the morale of our soldiers. Our military fights so much better when they WANT to be there then whern they HAVE to be. Volunteers work harder because they chose their job.

Obviously you did not read the whole article about Charles Rangle's
proposed draft

By the way the military does not want a draft, they would have to
reject to many people for not passing the written tests.

The scores have been raised since the 60's. Back then you could
be an idiot and get in, now you have to have an IQ of at least 100.

First off, the Military doesn't instate a draft, Congress does. second the ones who think the draft is coming are the same ones who think the war is about oil. in the words of Napoleon Dynamite, "IDIOT... GAWWD"

I wish they would impose a draft for all members of society between the ages of 18-20. Imagine how strong our country would be.

The Armed Forces of the USA DO NOT want a draft because the All-volunteer concept is working very good and so there WILL NOT be a Draft.

I am for a draft. I say 18-45 year old men and women. No deferments, no exemptions except for the disabled, and that depends on the degree because they could serve in supportive roles! If you enjoy the freedoms that this country provides, you should have to serve to protect those freedoms. Do you think there will be mass exodus to Canada? If so, we don't want those people here anyway.

There won't be a draft because the U.S. learned it's lesson in Vietnam. Drafted soldiers don't fight nearly as effectively as volunteer soldiers.
