You ***DON'T!!!!!******
You ****CAN'T*****!!!!!!
Pups that young are PHYSICALLY *&* MENTALLY ****UN-ABLE*** to hold OR LEARN to!!!!

You MUST give them acess to a BED *&* put newspaper down around it (IN A PEN!!!!!)& they WILL try to get out of bed!! Clean up the messy paper 2-3 times DAILY!!!That's the BEST you can hope for at this stage!

Hi i have read all the answers and there are some good ideas. I have breed dogs so been around alot of puppies in the last 20yrs. I never shout or scold my dogs, dogs do not learn by being shouted out but learn my calm positive energy and routine. Train him too paper first when he looks like he is about too go too toilet pick him up put him on the paper or training pad, and praise him lots when he goes on it, even if he is going still pick him up and put him on the paper. As he learns too go too the paper start placing it nearer too the back door and eventually outside once he goes outside you can remove the paper and start taking him outside with the same praise routine 5weeks is very young but i know there could be a reason you have him at that young, as i had my pup at 3weeks cos her mum died. Hei,ll just need extra attention hope the answer helps

You cannot housetrain 4 week old puppies, its impossible. They haven't physically developed enough to have any bladder or bowel control.
At that age you keep them in a puppy playpen with plenty of paper down and you put up with the mess. Like putting a nappy on a small baby.

Don't attempt to start housetraining yet. At 8 weeks you can start to take them out to the toilet spot you make in the yard.
Research crate training and target training. And please learn something about puppy development; they will need socialising with other dogs.

Right now you don't. They are peeing and pooping machines at this age and they have no physical control of their elimination. You can being the housetraining process once they are about 6 or 7 weeks old.

To housetrain, you need to have a schedule for eating, potty breaks, playtime, etc. When you take them out, keep them restricted to one place - if they can run all over the yard or sniff everywhere outside, they won't focus on what needs to be done. When they do go outside, give them lots of praise and a little treat.

Prevent accidents indoors by keeping them confined when you are not able to supervise them and rushing them outside when you see that they are about to eliminate (you won't have much warning!).

As tedious as it will be, you will have better luck with training if you only take out one or two at a time. They will probably be too distracted if they are all out together.

i relay think you are expecting to much to soon they have lost there mum that would be the last thing on my mind i relay don't think that you should be putting them out side on any grass yet they could pick up any sort of infection you need to get a large play pen and put some newspaper on the floor that way they will get use to urinating on paper but if the mother was here she would be cleaning them so you will have to do the same but i always find that if my pups are in a play pen they will not come to any harm when you are not around and with the mother not there to do that then they would be safer and make life a little easer for you but dont try and train them yet they are to young just give them loads of love they need you to be a mum to them poor little things dont try and get them to run before they can walk they are only 4weeks old you are a bit harsh i wouldn't wont you to be my mother why don't you concentrate on caring for them and feeding them give them a chance dont be a bully( reg breeder of bichon frise) chill out give them a chance

The only way to get them clean is take them out, and if youve to leave them in the house put plenty of paper down, they learn a lot when there young.I had mum, dad, nine puppies and two pet cats in our house and never had any poo or pee on my carpets at all,I had all those animals for seven weeks untill the babies went tothere new homes. good luck.

We tend to think of dog training as a series of steps for teaching particular behaviors. To teach a dog to stay in a particular position, you reward her as she remains in place for gradually longer times, at gradually greater distances, with gradually increasing degrees of distraction. Now, this is fine, training does involve teaching dogs specific behaviors with a step-by-step approach. This week, though, I’m going to discuss three mental habits that will not only enable you train more effectively but also make life pleasant for both you and your dog.

I hope you mean 5-4 wk old puppies. Otherwise your dogs are over a year old and should already be housebroken. Thats okay we all make typos. There are several puppy training sites on line.

They should be bottle fed for another 2 weeks. They won't have ANY bladder control till at least 8 weeks. Which means out every 1-2 hours. And NEVER EVER EVER rub their nose in it. That is the first step towards creating a fearful, aggressive dog.

I trained our puppies, it was hard work, tiring but it was all worth it. I took them out every hour , stuck them on the grass and told them to wee-wee. I did that every hour of the day then one day one of the pups did a wee. I did the same at night, took them out at 12, 2, 5 and so on. They learnt very fast what the word wee-wee meant and i have no dogs that wee in my house, neither do they do their business in my house. That is the only way, the old news-paper story is rubbish. You will succeed i promise you. Please let me know ok:))
