Explain to him (again) and his mom that you want to marry someone with your same religious beliefs, confront him about "telling" on you to his mom, then leave them alone. If they can't respect what's important to you, then they are not worth the stress of the situation.

Is he trying to convert you? Are you tying to convert him? The problem with religions is most insist only they are right and believers have a duty to convert others to the "right way". The right way is to leave others believe as they want. If you love each other and can leave religion out of it, what is the problem?
If you believe in the same God you real values are not that far apart.

Tell him that for a marriage to succeed, there must be love on both sides. It is better to marry someone who loves you rather than to marry someone who loves you not. Life will turn into a hell and one has to live each single day of his life. Better avoid doing a mistake now that to regret it the whole of your life.

Religious beleifs can be compromised, unless he is atheist. That would be the only religious difference that I would not be willing to understand. As long as you both beleive in God, I think there is room for compromise. If this is your only reservation, Love conquers all. Follow your heart if you love each other!
