Forget the cheezy, gifts...find out what his true interests are. Travel? Cars? Whatever his interest are, show him that you not only want him to enjoy you, but life as well. It shows you know him & support his interests.

was the sexy lingerie in question for him? If not, why not try that? Most men have never worn a G-string, ley alone some sexy material like leather, and they really don't know what they're missing!
How about give him them when you're apart - maybe you've gone to work early, give him the chance to try 'em, tell him you'll take them off when you meet, then invite him out for a drink or soemwhere public, and share that secret knowledge. Nothing like it.

Its a bit cheap but a CD of 1 of my bf's fav bands usually works a treat, likewise a game or DVD he's been lusting after. Boring and unsentimental but men seem to like those things!

something from the heart, even something you made showing all of your memories together to let him know how much you cherish them, if he's a good guy an expensive gift wont mean as much

A pair of cufflinks or a a poem you could tell someone to write for you and frame it for him. Don't forget to wrap it.
