If not what other important factors should parents consider when choosing a school for their kids?

well, i looked at the fact that schools are designed to teach kids their place, force them to learn things they don't care about, force them to stop learning things they do care about, grade them on tuesday when maybe on thursday they finally understand it. schools teach conformity, materialism, fads, and vicious peer behavior. watching my nieces in a few of the best schools, private and public, in the county, i realized the schools would never get my kids. ugh.

homeschool is the only good and decent way to educate a child.

Popularity is not a reason to pick a school in my opinion. I would be much more interested in the schools student to teacher ratios, testing averages, crime rates, how the school compares to other schools in the state in MAP tests etc. There are websites out there that will give all the stats for the schools in your area.

Not necessarily. Depending on the age of your child, the internet can be a good resource. There are lots of sites out there that rate schools.
