Go and buy some Faustino VII Rioja, absolutely delicious, any half decent Rioja ia good but Faustino is excellent.

Or a decent Merlot.

The answer depends on two basic factors: 1. Which type of red wine do you prefer to drink? Fruity, dry, sweet etc.
This information will ensure that you are not recommended a wine you don't like, anyway.
2. Give information about the meal such as main dish and other plates. Do you intend to change wines during meal?
Other helpful information would be related to where you live and which wines are readily available to you.
I look forward to the next episode!

huge range. If you're a complete beginner, check out simple guides such as Sainsbury's or Waitrose. You can get more specific advice by regional wine types (italian, Bordeaux etc). Generally, a blended red wine is easier to drink and goes with almost anything (try Merlot, Pino Noir, Cabernet Franc blends etc. Chilean, Spanish and Bordeaux types are common). Less common are CHILLED red Sancerre and Brouilly - my favorites. If you go for full-bodied red wines (Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz etc) these need generally to be drunk with heavier meat dishes (otherwise you could take your head off!). Have fun!

Reds.such as

How about Abrazo Del toro reserva 2001? it's not too expensive, it's delicious and velvety wine soft and dry. rich with flavours of black cherries, dark choc, and raspberry? it's a red wine..very good

or how about a spanish Rioja, Marques de Riscal?

or Red diamond Merlot from Washinngton..very good too

or Pinot Noir carneros, Etude vintage 2003

Whites:
Schafer-Frohlich, 2002 Bockenauer felseneck Riesling Spatlese Nahe..it's sweet but very good about $25.00 a bottle....

2000 Lugana San benedetto Zenato..very good.

Without knowing anything about the meal, pinot noir or merlot are generally "safe". If it's a hearty meal of steak or filet, consider the cabernet sauvignon.

Depends on what you are having for dinner. Usually reds are good for red meats and wild game. But there are so many different kinds. You really have to find one you like and go with it. There's lots of "rules" about what goes with what, but it ultimately matters what tastes good to you. If you don't like it, then it's not going to taste good with any meal. Good luck and have fun!

It depends on the meal. I always love a good Chianti but a Cabernet Sauvignon is also tasty.

depends on what type of red you prefer, we usually have an Australian Shiraz, full of flavour and not at all bitter. it's a nice smooth red, and goes hand in hand with a roast beef dinner.
