It's hard to define greatness as a chef. One minute your on top the next who knows. Escoffie was good, but he drank too much, Bocuse was good but wasn't the greatest person( a bit of a wanker) Right now though John Keller from The French Laundry in Sonoma is fantastic 6 month waiting list to get into his place. He also has a place in NY City. This is a toughy BEST CHEF there are so many variables. I make an irresistable creme caramel, hey but that's me.

My four year old thinks my pb&j is the best in the world.
Ok, but I think the best chef in the world is a pretty vague question and you should get many answers. I have my favorites on tv, but have never really had "their" cooking, just my immitation of it. I have had Paul Prudhomes (sp) (Louisiana chef) and his is pretty tasty!

Well It depends on your palate really
I like all kinds of foods so it's really hard to tell which chef is the greatest....one who can cook it all???

Hate rachel Ray!!! YUK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rick Bayless is awesome but he only cooks mexican food...
I love sushi, french food, Indian, Thai...so really I don't have a favorite chef..they are all good in my opinion.
