It's hard to define greatness as a chef. One minute your on top the next who knows. Escoffie was good, but he drank too much, Bocuse was good but wasn't the greatest person( a bit of a wanker) Right now though John Keller from The French Laundry in Sonoma is fantastic 6 month waiting list to get into his place. He also has a place in NY City. This is a toughy BEST CHEF there are so many variables. I make an irresistable creme caramel, hey but that's me.

My four year old thinks my pb&j is the best in the world.

Ok, but I think the best chef in the world is a pretty vague question and you should get many answers. I have my favorites on tv, but have never really had "their" cooking, just my immitation of it. I have had Paul Prudhomes (sp) (Louisiana chef) and his is pretty tasty!
