I used Winnie the Pooh, which was the same as the nursery theme. It made it easier to pick, but like the others have said, don't stress yourself about it. In 10 more years, you probably won't even remember what the theme was. Just concentrate on giving your child and fun time. And, I got a second, tiny cake for the baby to enjoy and a bigger cake for all the guest.

My daughter's first birthday was Blue's Clues, because she was very into it at the time. If your child tends to like a particular theme, then go with that. Otherwise, go with Baby's First or just a general theme for a birthday. If the area you live in has them, Garden Ridge has a HUGE party selection.....so you could even go with primary colors of red, yellow, blue and green. Keep it simple, and give crayons and a cheap coloring book as party favors!

You didn't tell us whether it's a boy or girl BUT for a neutral theme you can use Baby' Einstein, Winnie the Pooh, Sesame Street, Blue's Clue's.......does your baby have a favorite toy or something that you can make a theme out of??

my son's first bday didnt really have a theme since i figured he was too young to remember anyways. we bought baby blue and white streamers and blue balloons and such. the cake was actually 24 cupcakes in the shape of a monkeys head with frosting on top, (walmart did it for 15 bucks, and the baby's lil cake is free since its their first bday). you can do the same for a little girl just use girly colors. and use a thing she likes as a cake idea like a rainbow or a favorite animal they like. make it fun really

My duaghters was blues clues, then second bday was elmo, I let her pick it out, take you child to the store hold out a few options and let them pick. It is so much easier that way, then even though they dont care it still feels like you let them choose what they wanted.

1 year olds do not need a theme. He/she won;t even know that is going on. I suggest just having a variety of colored balloons.
