very easy just follow these steps
1-go www.indianrail.gov.in
2-important stations
3-select the stations (orig-dest)
4-select ur class
5-now u will get all trains passing those stations
6-select the train and date
7-check availability

visit www.indianrail.gov.in and click the link train / fare accomodation. You will get availability of trains between stations and reservation position thereof.
You can also get train tickets online through government website www.irctc.co.in

i dont know if you cant check avialbility of ticket but u can sure check for confirmation by typing your pnr number
