A friend of mine told me I could find out information about grants or funds that are out there when one is relocating for a new job and a new college. There must be some type of grant out there that could help me with my move or even a loan out there I can possibly obtain in order to move from one state to another. thank you.

There are employers who offer a relocation allocation if the person moves, but it is not always the case with every single job. However, in some circumstances, the federal government offers a tax credit in some circumstances of a move for a job, but you have to check with your accountant with it. Unfortunately, unless your friend gets specific about the one for college other than telling you there is one out there, I do not know of any.

There is no such thing as relocation grants.

You can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two FREE sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support relocating, and you'll find that there's none.

You may, however, be eligible for relocation tax deduction. You can read about it from the IRS website http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc455.html

I know the moving costs are tax deductible if they fit certain requirements. If you are moving for a job, check with your employer. Otherwise, try checking the state's website, they may have some sort of incentive program or assistance if they are trying to pull in residents.
