I've seen how long it has taken some people, but am unsure as to how leisurely their pace was.
Specifically, how long would it take a relatively fit young person?

Well, the British coastline is 18838 kilometres long in total.
Based on an average walking speed of 5km per hour, which will allow for fitness, capability, hills, etc, this equates to 3768 hours.
Bearing in mind that most people would only walk for 8 hours a day, this equates to 471 days.
..............or, in other words, just over 67 weeks, or nearly a year and a third.
I hope you have a lot of holiday available from your work or college.
Good luck if you try it, but most people only walk part of the coastline.

Blimey, anyone who has ever walked around Britain is probably considerably fitter than you are or ever will be!
Perhaps the thing to do is find out what the distance involved is (which may vary depending on how close to the coast you wish to stay), but either way we are talking about a HUGE mileage. Having found out this mileage divide it by how far you can reasonably expect to walk in a day (bearing in mind that the coastline of much of Britain is extremely rugged and you will be climbing a lot of hills). We are talking many months here!
I think you will need to be VERY fit not just relatively fit!

nicely once you upward thrust up close to the Highlands you would be slowed down very plenty by utilising "roads" that are smaller than some human beings's driveways. Passing places and all - fairly Ardnemurchan section - Kilchoan being the west maximum component of the Mainland. i could danger very style of two,500 - 3,000 miles to circulate precise around the coast, yet with some extremely iffy-roads alongside the trip, do no longer assume to be doing 60 each and each of how :) even while the roads are "ok", because it's going to be coastal, assume jams and delays a good bit. in case you reckoned on a longtime speed possibly of 40 mph, then possibly around 60 - 70 hours of non-end using. Assuming human beings could easy to often circulate to the bathing room / consume and sleep and so on, then in case you have been on the line for sixteen hours an afternoon, then approximately 4-5 days. in case you took a week off and left Friday night, you will have utpo 9 days on your trip - which ought to permit for many eventualities - inclusive of the unpredicted puncture / somebody feeling ill / roads closed through snow (esp in Highlands) feels like a chilled trip yet wish you're stable acquaintances to all be spending that plenty time cooped up at the same time :)

This will still vary from person to person. We "Hike Barbados" every Sunday morning for 3 hours and our group covers a different diastance than the other 2 groups. The groups vary from 6 miles to 10 miles in the same period of time - 3 hours.
