When I say that a guy is hot I mean that I would have sex with him. If I say a guy is cool I mean that he's a good friend or has friend potential.

That guy is cool means that he's probably a cool and nice guy.

Hot deals mainly with the guys physical appearance. That he's very good looking.
Cool deals more with personality, that he's laid back, down to earth, and easy to get along with.

when a girl says a guy is hot she's refering to his looks...and based on that...she's superficial and not worth your time...you want someone who likes you for you...not for your looks...not for how much money you make or what kind of car you drive...
