I'm just wondering what kind of diet I should get on from someone who has gone through this. I used to be much more active, but I got married so you know the rest. Any suggestions???

As someone else asked, what's your definition of "in a hurry"? You didn't put the pounds on overnight, so unfortunately it's not going to go away overnight. Unless of course you opt for lipo...

I lost 60 pounds in 3 months. That's more than what is recommended, but it was a life style change. I went from eating fast food, drinking pop and snacking on unhealthy food and not doing anything to eating healthy and exercising. I did the Atkins diet and used the Walk Away the Pounds tapes. I had purchased the tapes for my mother to exercise in the wintertime and she lost weight, so I figured why not buy the tapes for myself. I started walking 1 mile in the morning (it's only 20 minutes!!!) and 1 mile in the evening, working up to 3 miles in the evening and still the 1 mile in the morning. After a while I started incorporating other tapes so it wasn't the same old routine. I used some of the Richard Simmons tapes and others I had kept from other failed diet attempts.

Another thing I've found which has been helpful through the maintenance stage and would be great through dieting is a site called SparkPeople.com. You can track what you eat, excersing and any other goals you may have. They make it sort of like a game because you earn points for different things you do such as: reading helpful emails on nutrition and exercising, points for exercising, drinking your minimum of 8 glasses of water per day, etc and with each point level you get a different trophy (Sort of childish, but some people need this type of reward). It allows you to set up exercise routines (or gives you a plan of exercises), it can plan meals for you or you can list what you've eaten for the day (has a database of foods and items from restaurants which includes nutritional values). I found this to be informative. The times I thought I hadn't done too bad eating for the day, I'd actually done worse than I thought. So it's made me more aware of bad foods that I thought were "ok". After each entry you can see where you stand for the day on food vs. exercising. It can show you progress reports on weight loss, if you're meeting your exercise goals, etc. There are support groups to join (i.e., over 40, need to lose 10lbs, let's walk 1 mile every day, etc.) message boards, daily journals, etc. And to top it off, it's all FREE!

I am in no way affiialted with SparkPeople.com. I've just found this to be a great tool and wanted to pass the word along to someone who might want to use something like this to help with their weight loss or maintenance plan.

Good luck... Eat healthy... and remember it's all about portion control and exercising!

It depends what you consider a hurry. If you want to really lose 30lbs. and keep it off doing it the "right" way- it will take some time (at least a few months).

The website www.myfooddiary.com is great! There is a small membership fee (about $9 a month or so) but it is well worth it. The site allows you to log all your food, excercise, and track your body changes as you go and each day it tracks and lets you know how much protein, fat, carbs, etc. you have had and how much you should have - and there is also forum for support, etc.

If you want to do it on your own, lots of excercise and healthy eating is the way to go. AND drink lots of water, lots of foods high in fiber, and watch your sodium intake (we all eat way too much) - these last 3 factors seem to be key to effective weight loss.

Good luck!

You might think about trying this book called "The Movie Star Diet" by Steve Simmons. It helped me lose thirty pounds in 2 1/2 months when I didn't think anything would work. My goal to begin with was only 20 lbs! It has a really easy plan to follow and an excellent workout as well.

I lost 105 pounds in 6 months. Here is how I did it.
1. Every morning get up and walk for 45 minutes. You can start with less time, but you want to get up to 45 minutes, and it must be fast walk. You want your heart rate to go up. It must be in the morning, it kick starts your metabolism.
2. I cut out Red Meat, and fatty foods. Boneless skinnless chicken breast, baked, or grilled, rice and vegetables (steamed).
3. Eat half. Just eat half of what you normally eat. Put 1/2 on your plate, and put the rest away. Cook less. When you go to fast food, get salads only. Or grilled chicken. No fries, only diet soda. Or water.

It will work, once you get into a routine, you will get hooked on the results, and you will keep the routine. It has been over a year for me.

A sight with some really cool diet calculators and interesting calorie counting calculators is here. Check it out.

Start with the link in source, it help you plan your diet. You need a well balanced meal, only smaller proportions.
A rule of thumb is; Meat the size of a deck of cards,, Lean meat/Protein (2-3 servings a day. Vegetables the size of a light bulb (3-5 servings a day). Fruit the size of a baseball/hardball (2-3 servings a day). Breads/Grains the size of a bar of soap (6-11 servings a day).---- Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care; http://www.afmc.org

Eat fruits and vegetables, but follow a 1,600 calerie plan instead of a 2,100 plan. Also excersize regulary for at lest 30 minutes a day. If you run hard enough, you just need to do 15 mins -- it depends on how intense you are at it. You could even walk for 1 hour and get the same workout. Good luck!

if people would exercise more they would not have to worry so darn much about food...Are you really serious about doing this? We are talking about hard work. Putting down your little debbies, getting off your butt and not only going on a diet but EXERCISING!!! Even if you lose the weight it will come right back if you do not have the desire and motivation to not only look cute but to be healthy. it is going to take alot of inner strength I can assure you of that.

1.) eat 4-5 small meals a day

2.) drink lots of water

3.)exercise every day

4.) do not eat 4-6 hours before you sleep.

Anyone who's lost that amount of weight will tell you that they didn't get it overnight. Losing weight isn't an overnight thing sadly... well unless you get liposuction. Just be more physically active and eat more healthy food. Remember the calories you take in must be less than the calories you burn in order for you to lose weight. Thats the only way.. sadly.
