Its possible to have a viral infection (such as Mono, CMV, etc.) in addtion to "strep' throat at the same time. The antibiotics will kill the bacteria but not the viruses ( sometimes more than one). its also possible to develop a tonsillar abcess (an inner tonsillar infection with swelling of the tonsils).. Very rarely do other bacteria in the tonsils break down the antibiotic you probably have taken causing "resistance".
SOn in conclusion, my advice would to be go back to the Dr. Let him examine you and possibly run other blood/throat tests.
Good luck.

Did the staff at the hosp do a culture? Do you still have tonsils? Are you a girl or boy? Did they guess a strep throat or did they give you facts? Were you given any antibiotics? What did they give you? Did you take them? Did you take them all? Please, give us more info...it is hard to answer your question without more info?

The pain in the neck can be life threatening. Go to the hospital right now . You could have something very serious.
