Get your eyes examined and ask for the prescription. Glasses from places that do both exams and glasses can cost anywhere from $200-$600 depending on the lenses. Take your prescription over to a BJs (the outlet stores that sell mega-sized items) They have eyewear departments that offer a great selection of frames and can usually make your glasses for 1/3 what Empire, Pearle, Lenscrafter, etc. would charge you. You can bring old frames in, and they'll make and install your new lenses for a fraction of the cost.

It depends on where you go, what you need in the way of lenses, and what frames you select. I used to use an optometrist that ran a high-end practice. The showroom was large and well decorated, the opticians were young and attractive, and the markup was horrendous. I paid a little over $350 for 1 pair of glasses, and they had nothing fancy except that they were bifocals.
Then I went to the optometrist at a Sam's Club, and got glasses that were just as good for about $150. And those were tinted as sunglasses. It pays to shop around a bit.

They are never truely cheap. Depends on where you buy them. Check your sunday paper for coupons, there's usually some for places like Sears optical, Lens Crafter, America's Best, etc....
My last trip to Lens Crafter cost me over $200. But that an emergency. Same-day places cost more. Designer frames cost more (and are probably a waste of money!) than more generic brands. Shop around.
Note, if you want contact lenses, be sure to tell them that before you take the eye test. Many places do an eye test just for glasses and have another one for contacts. If you[re not careful you might have to pay for two optomitry exams.

It all depends on what you need and want. A frame will probably set you back 100+ depending on the style, the designer etc. The lenses cost additional and the costs of those vary with if you get a tint, or if you get a special coating on them, or if you get the super thin ones or if you have bi focals or multi focals... There is no fixed price - you're best off talking to an optometrist.

The pair I got last week was about $300.usd
for lenses and frames, they were bifocals.
the lenses would be cheaper for single focal vision.
the frames range from $50 to $300.
If you just need them for reading, most drug stores
sell generic reading glasses for like $15.
you may be able to use those.....

You should be able to get a pair for $80, but they can go as high as $400 (designer frames, polycarbonate lenses).
