Oh, please, I'm grading 7th grade ISTEP (the Indiana standardized test), and this is the exact question I've been preparing to train evaluators on. I have seen about 400 papers of answers to this question. Because the biological clocks of teenagers change, so that they begin to go to sleep later and get up later, some say they should start later. Others say that it should remain the same for some of the following reasons:

1. To change it would mess up their after school sports and activities schedules, especially if they changed and other local schools didn't.
2. They wouldn't have time to get their homework done.
3. Some kids' parents drop them off, which they couldn't do if school was later.
4. Getting up earlier prepares them for college and work.
5. They wouldn't have time to spend with their parents.

do you mean start earlier in the year? or children starting at earlier ages? either way, no. i think that school starts early enough as it is, and every year it starts earlier. i also think that no child should be forced to go to school before they are old enough to behave without their parents around. by 4, i think they can deal with it, but i really doubt a 3 year old could sit in a chair and learn all day....they want to play.
