...I don't know why that is (that few TV preachers are backed by or held accountable to any denomination or overseeing authority); some to be sure are money-grabbers. If one is accountable to no one, it can easily lead to abuses of many kinds. I watch for doctrinal errors especially, lavish lifestyles, and endless pleas (and gimmicks) to get your money. There are crooked evangelists and ministers, who have been caught in lies and criminal activity, but not all are crooked. There are bad apples in every profession.
...A biblical congregation should be led by male elders who are subject to God and each other. I will not be part of a church which has no such elder board.
...That is a warning sign to me. Those who subject themselves to no one, are in danger of leading many astray, as in a cult following.
...Our pastor, re: any of his messages - he encourages us to "check him out", to prove what he teaches. The Berean Christians were commended in Acts 17:11 - "Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the Scriptures with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily, to see whether these things were so."
...Don't be afraid to check them out - in fact, do check them out - examine the Scriptures daily, to see whether the things they teach are so.
...God does know how to "clean house" too, that is, He is fully capable of removing people who dishonor His name. And in the end, Romans 14:12 says, "Each of us shall give account of himself to God." They will not escape.

Or a lot of times the governing body just happens to be the preachers family and best friends. For example, look at TV preacher joyce meyers. Her board is all family , who God must have just happened to call into ministry too. And take a look sometime at the luxurious lifestyle she lives, and what she possesses, including a face lift, paid for by her followers. Even if they have some denominational authority, do you think it really matters with the amount of money they're bringing in. Everyone will enjoy taking a cut , and it's ok because after all God wants them to prosper, right?

I would question a preacher if he is not "connected" to a church. Can just anyone open up the bible and preach to people? If I believed in any preacher, I would be foolish not to consider where he received his understanding. Not everyone who appears righteous is so. But on the other hand, just because someone belongs to a church does not mean they are credible. The bottom line is to always be wary of preachers, especially those who talk about their opinion ten times as much as they quote scripture. If I wanted a self-help, make money group, I'd join Amway.

possibly it relatively is simply by fact God chosen the foolishness of preaching to unfold the gospel. do not maximum preachers act silly? "For after that for the duration of the know-how of God the international by utilising know-how knew not God, it thrilled God by utilising the foolishness of preaching to maintain them that have confidence." People created denominations. Not God. God is not a God of separation.
