i really really like this guy.. for like 3 years now. and at some point, i'm pretty sure he liked me too. we started out as friends, talking at parties and such... but a few years have gone by now and i only see him in the halls. he'll focus on me in the crowd, and is extra quiet around me. and if we ever talk, he'll look at my lips. (my friends tell me all this- before they even knew i liked him) he's really shy and according to my friends, doesn't treat anyone like he treats me. anyway, i was wondering how i could get him to loosen up around me without actually asking him out. (that would be awkward since i haven't talked to him for so long). also, do you think he likes me?

Okay, I'm a guy and I can relate to your situation because I, too, am quiet around the girl I like. What you need to do is commence your talking to him slowly.Don't rush it or else when/if you two do end up going out on a date, things will become VERY awkward.
Here's what to do:
Firstly, make sure you are comfortable around him.
If you are already comfortable talking to him, you should engage him in a conversation that he will really enjoy.
If you don't manage that, it will manage itself out. You should just relax.
Once he is in a loosened up 'mood', you tell him that you sometimes find yourself staring at him when he's not looking. He'll definitely relate to that because that is actually what he should be saying.
He then should say (if he's not to shy), "I do too!"
There and then you'll both probably be silent for a few seconds. After that someone has to come up with something to say. That is when you tell that you like him (If you're sure you do).
That's the best I can do. I'm being honest when I say: The moment when someone tells you that they like you is a special moment that you can't rehearse or control, so be free and be yourself.

wow years huh? yeah i totoaly think he like you. But if he isnt opening up then you should totally make the move. If you dont want to ask him out then dont, just talk to him more, and get closer to him....

well it's hard to tell, that he likes you, but i think you should go up to him and ask him if he likes you and tell him you like him.
