hi
i think i am showing mild signs ocd and fear of germs and contamination in particular.
baiscally i think my ocd is a result of reading about hiv/aids etc, since i ahve read about this, i fear to touch anything that is white ( thinking it will be semen) or red( thinking its blood) also whenever i see a wet surface i fea rit is urine.
this is very difficult to live with especially at work where i deal with keyboard , mouse etc and there are always white particles lyinga round ( on a black key board ). i ams cared tot ucj surfaces which i think may be affected

my question is are there any fellow ocd sufferers who suffer from similar problems and how do you deal with thme in the workplace??

thanks /

Have you officially been diagnosed with OCD for these symptoms? The reason I ask is because your symptoms sound more like generalized anxiety disorder.

OCD is an obsession with something (like germs) and acting on it in an exessive manner (like cleaning obsessively). However, your symptoms seem more like a fixated fear of HIV and substances that could spread the disease than the obsession and compulsion that is the trademark of OCD.

I suggest talking to your doctor or psychiatrist about what you described here. He or she may decide to give you meds that will help with the anxiety related to these thoughts.

Hope this helps!

I cant take meds because im emetaphobic and im too scared they will make me sick (this is why im one of the hand washing ocd'er's) But i dont know anything much. It drives me f*cking insane though,. I had to quit my job for the stupid thing, but its what you gotta do. If i find anything thats works ill letcha know;-) Good luck:D

That's why you wash your hands a least very time you go to the bathroom or about to eat. One if you see blood or dry blood it is not infected with HIV once the blood it's the air the virus is gone. But I will not want to touch it either. But look live your life everything as germs and your body fights off germs everyday.

Just remember that HIV has to have a way to get in.If your hands are in good shape, then the virus can't get into your bloodstream. If you get too carried away(and hand sanitizers can be drying),your hands will crack and bleed, then you could have a REAL problem. If you do wash your hands a lot, keep lotion handy.Just try to be rational about it.That helps. It took a few years for the rational part of my brain to kick in,but now,I have very few OCD symptoms.I kind of miss alphabetizing things...

I have OCD and it is hard to cope with it at work. To be honest, I just deal with the problem as best I can - I barely have the time or money to get help at the moment.

i have the same problem. honestly, i havent tried to cure it as i have problems that give me more concern. i carry around a little bottle of hand sanitizer (u can get little bottles in a belt holder at target.)

it works really well just to settle my mind. it may not make me cleaner all the time, but i feel like it does, and tht's all tht matters.
