Every night before bed, we "race" to see who can pick up toys the fastest. I wouldn't expect her to keep it clean ALL the time. What fun is that?? Just make sure before bed every night it gets cleaned. Make it a game - make it exciting for her.

Make cleaning a game. Set a timer and see how mucj she can get done by the ding. Help her get it cleaned and organized. Use bins and baskets to get the room organized. Then make pictures and write the item on the bin or basket. If she has too many toys, have her go through her toys to find things she can donate. Rotate her toys too. Put some away for a month. After a month, put more toys away and bring the other toys out. That way it is always like playing with a new toy.

Try to turn it into a game for her. Challange her that, "I bet you can't pick up all your clothes in 5 minuets..." You could use a kitchen timer and it could be a race against the clock.
Remeber to praise her when she's performed it. If you want you could give her a special treat if it's tidy.
AND / OR make up a chart, and every day that her room is kept clean, or she picks up her toys, put up a tick or sticker. If she reaces a certain amount (say 5 days in a row), then she can get or do something special.
Always remember to praise her when she does the right thing.. Children at this age are very egocentric - that is, their ideas and thughts are based mainly on how they feel and what they want. If they are getting rewarded for doing something, this encourages them to continue that task

How much stuff does she have in there and does she have the storage for what she does have? Maybe time for a purge especially with the holidays and doate toys to a shelter or another giving organization. Also you can make the laundry into a basket ball hoop by putting a hoop above a laundry container you can get a net to collect stuffed animals and hang about the bed or in a corner
I hope some of these help

As with all things there should be interest in doing something before you do it. Try not to get into the reward/punishment thing as this will create an atmosphere of reward for everything. First you should talk with the child and let them know the reason they should keep things clean. Then make a game of it, a basket ball hoop over the clothes hamper, fun folding ideas, and color ABC, 123 places for many of her favorite things. I don't know her interest so I can't help there, but play on those interest to keep her attentive. Use stickers as labels, "this goes next to Dora's spot." I have faith in your creative ideas, if you make it fun, then the task will be easier for both of you.

You might want to get cubbies for all her toys and extra drawers. Let her orangize it, let her choose what toys go in certain draweres, and maybe let her label her drawers. Children are going to keep their rooms messy! Teach her to throw away her trash or pick up her dinner plater after she eats. If she sees that you are being clean, she will follow! Make it fun by singing a song while cleaning, do a cleaning chart, have a mommy and me game while cleaning, or even some kind of adventure after she cleans. Good luck!

I know the feeling!
If she has alot of toys, get some plastic tubs to seperate them.
You get get shelves where she could put somethings on to be more organized.
I put music on that my daughter enjoys when she cleans her room.
she sings and dances when she is in there cleaning.

destroy down the cleanup into numerous chunks, like putting your clothing again or stashing the books. Assign each bite to a diverse day, and on that day, crank up the music and initiate a timer for, say, an hour. paintings as quick and complicated for that hour as you want to to finish one bite, then kick again guilt loose.

check out the flylady.net. some people just aren't 'born organized.' they need skills and a system. flylady typically appeals to kids, and, as usual, when suggestions come from someone besides mom, they're easier to take.
