I dated a serious alcoholic (On the wagon when we first met...So I didn't realize what I was getting into) for 6 months. He drank Vodka non-stop, morning, noon and night. He had 3 year old twin boys. He would crash, seek help, then crash again. In the 6 months we were together, he was in detox (5 day in-patient dry-outs) 4 times - He refused to go to long term therapy out of embarrassment...

Unfortunately, they can only help themselves. I tried an intervention with all of his closest friends, I tried talking to him about how he needed to be there for his kids, nothing worked...Until he lost his personal assistant, who also drank heavily, at the age of 49 (He looked 80 from all the years of alcohol abuse). From what another friend in AA tells me (Who also counseled me during all of this), it often takes a life changing experience for them to really see the problem.

Good luck my friend, I know you want to help your friend, just don't get frustrated when your attempts fail.

If you can talk your friend into getting professional help or at least starting AA but truthfully that persons gonna have really want it for their self only that person can changed their way and it's a long hard road so please stick by that person if you really want this person to get better. I think she may feel the only time she can have fun is get wasted because then she has really nothig to care about.

Intervention!! Suggest going to getting help and offer to go with her if that would make her more comfortable. The situation will not cure itself. But from the little you have said something needs to be done and it is time to call professionals in.

Like mother, like daughter! Talk to her when she is sober like when she gest up in the morning and take her to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). You gotta understand whether it is worth to help this person or not if she doesn't appreciate your help then leave her to her fate and don't waste your time. (maybe it's in her genes)

She will have to help herself. You should let her know what you are seeing her do to herself. But she will have to seek her own help.

Why do you want to help her? I suppose you wanna save the world, too. If you don't like the way a person acts, just hang around with someone else.
