going for the new kitten. The resident is about 4 weeks older & I have gotten them used to each others scent but can only have them in the same room to eat & about 5 min of play with 2 cat dancers. The resident is excitable & the new one shy how can I get them used to each other?

They will get used to each other. It will probably take a couple of weeks, but their individual temperaments will even each other out and before you know it, they will be giving each other baths and cuddling on the couch together! It has taken my older female cat 4 weeks to "accept" the 8 week old kitten.

I had to separate the kitten from the other resident cats for about a week. They would sniff under the doors at each other. At first, she would hiss and hide under the bed when the kitten came around after the separation. I had to just let them do their thing, but I kept a close eye on them. Within a few weeks, I had both the female cat and the new kitten sleeping on the same bed at the same time. She will still occasionally hiss, but it's more a "I'm putting you in your place" hiss, and nothing more. The kitten seems to understand, and will stop whatever behavior that prompted her to hiss in the first place.

Good luck and have patience! They'll get along!

Hey. . .they're just 'lil kittens, so only time will answer your question. . .just keep up what you're already doing and try allowing a bit more play time every couple of days. They will soon realise neither of them is leaving any time soon and should begin to adjust. Good luck with your kittens.
