Roughly 140 years back when the " fingerprint " technique was still developing, there were no methods to identify gender on basis of fingerprints. Hence, a standard was set that men fingerprints would have left thumb impression and viceversa for women. This is simply because, men were engaged in rigoruos work all day, in which right hand was used maximum and generate tiny cuts on finger. On the other hand women did work but tasks were soft in nature.
