They're rubbish at it. They don't know anything about importation taxes or anything.

My son is 4 and he probably knows more about all that than me!!

He asked me "why I ate my baby and why wouldn't I let it out" yesterday - an intelligent take on pregnancy...

Of course. How else will they understand the Isolationist movements throughout history without a solid grounding in geo-political strategies and tactics.

Just be patient, and put it in their own terms. For instance, one might give a four year old some candy, and explain to the child that they may not wish to share with those who have been mean to them.

This also leads into a discussion of foreign aid, or kindness to those less privileged, but I would wait at least until they are 5 years old before I developed the theories of foreign aid as an imperialistic stratagem.

Edit: It helps if you read selections from Nietzsche's Thus Spake Zarathustra as bedtime stories for them, beginning about age 2.

My children (Bigglesforth, aged 4 & Matabangbang, aged 7) have just been appointed U.N. trade delegates for expanding and emerging markets.

Young Binky will be arbitrating the next round of trade negotiations with the Brazillian iron ore delegates whilst Matabangbang will be over in China trying to seperate them away from the delicate 'Korea problem'.

Trade and import taxes they can do, going to the toilet without redecorating the whole room and themselves is a completely different skill they have not yet been taught.
