I have been hearing a lot of things lately about people in restaurants doing all kinds of disgusting things with the food. Such as putting bodily fluids in the foods and not washing there hands. I even read a story about some burger restaurant employees using the burger buns to "scate" on the floor with and then giving it to the customers. Are these just rare exceptions or does nastiness like this happen more often than not in restaurants??

You can always tell how clean the food is by going into the restroom. If the restroom is nasty the food is nasty also.

Fast food is awful. The places I have seen practically no one washed there hands ever and those that tried usually were yelled at by superior if they followed proper washing routines as it took too long. Smoking while making food, deep frying bugs and plastic, spitting in food, serving food off floor or from trash.
The list goes on and on.

You really have no idea what some of the fast food places do. This is what happens when you have young people working crazy shifts, getting treated badly with bad pay and no benefits.

Did you notice that most of these stories occur in fast food restaurants? Maybe the employees are expressing displeasure with low wages, no benefits, and emotionally abusive managers. Go to a real restaurant, treat the employees like real people, and don't forget to tip at least 15% unless the service is horrible.

While what you described DO happen, they are of a minority cases. All restaurants want to keep customers and to do that they have to make sure people come back. People who do what you said above are few and far in between and they are usually disgruntled employees (why would the owner of the place want to chase his livelihood away?)

The bad point is - you never know if and when it will happen to you. It is a risk you have to take. The best solution is to go to a place you trust will have a high standard.

I worked in a fast food restaurant for a few years and did not see any of those things happen. But I can see how in a poorly managed store, such things would happen.

I worked in restaurants for years and NEVER saw anything even remotely close to that kind of thing. I'm sure it happens, but it's like everything else in this world. The bad guys/idots of the world get most of the press. The millions of normal people doing a good job we never hear about.

My guess is that it happens more often than you think. When I was in high school I knew a boy that worked at Rally's. He bragged about how he would take pickles out of the jar and suck on them then put them back in the jar. How disgusting!!! I didn't know whether or not to believe him and then a few years later I managed a movie theater and was doing some hiring. His application came in front of me so I called his previous employers for references. He did not have Rally's down but I called them anyway. (Not legal... I know). Anyway, when I spoke with the current manager he went back in the files and found that he was fired for "sucking on pickles and putting them back in the jar". It made me feel ill. Needless to say, I didn't hire him and I know he's not the only sicko out there.

Everyone is taking a risk when entering a restaurant. (ie. cut on the finger, cut by a knife, food picked from the floor, unwashed hands, etc). I'm sure i've eating food that has fallen on the ground and picked right up. But that is the consequences when eating out. Its gross yes, but what I don't see, don't hurt.

It happens, but it mainly only happens to people that are nasty to the employees. There are exceptions, but that is the main reason. If you are nice to them, they'll be nice to you.

I worked in fast food for a long time when I was younger.

I've worked at restaurants some very clean and then theres the ones I wouldn't let my dog eat at. You always take a chance when you eat out. My only advice to you is; NEVER eat the pickles!
