Hello
I have a laptop Acer Travelmate 2700 and one of the 2 screws to access the Hard Disk is worned out. I cannot remove this screw to replace the Hard Disk.
Since I need to upgrade my HD to a bigger one, I d like to know if someone has an idea about removing this worned out screw to access the HD without damaging the laptop?

thanks

I wouldn't drill out the screw. If you drill it out you could drill right into your motherboard if you aren't careful and that wouldn't be good. Also, you risk the chance of messing up the threads on the computer if you use too big of a drill bit. There are some bits that you can find at your local hardware store to remove damaged screws. The hardest part will be finding one for as small of a screw as you are trying to remove. Go to Lowe's or Home Depot and see if they have any screw removal tips for a battery powered drill or screw driver. If you can't find anything, then as a last resort you could drill it out. Just be careful and don't use too big of a drill bit or drill in too far. You might want wrap tape around the drill bit at a certain point so you know how far you've gone in if you attempt that method.

if you mean the screws to the hard disk to the hard disk casing, then you can call the acer technical support to ask for a new casing and screws.

else, if you mean the screws to the external of the laptop, then you need to try different sets of small pliers and screw drivers to try to unscrew the screw.

if still cannot, and if your master hard drive is not that small but average size, then buy an usb external 2.5 inches hard disk casing and put in a 2.5 inches hard disk in the external casing and attach it to the usb port of the laptop.

then, transfer important data to the usb hard disk before formatting the master hard disk in the latop.

important: get your laptop's drivers 1st before formatting the master hard disk in the laptop.

after that, install any future programs in the secondary usb hard disk.

ps: try to install the same operating system as before.

good luck!

Put a drop of vinegar on the screws, and then try to open them. If they are not too rusty they would open, or they might break also, so be careful.

sometimes the command console is extra lenient while it is composed of permissions. booting up in DOS/restoration console might do extra suitable if cmd fails. sometimes a linux OS can get right of entry to drives much less stressful
