The University of Glamorgan has a midwifery college in Pontypridd. From Bristol that might take about an hour to drive to (plus a fiver to get over the bridge). Probably a bit far, but might be worth looking at the options they do. Have a look on the UCAS website, as I'm sure you can do a search for the course you want and it will tell you all the uni's that do it.

Bristol, UWE, Bath and Bath Spa.

A lot of the Trainnee Nurses from UWE seem to spend their ward time at Frenchay Hospital

Well firstly the obvious - There's two Uni's in Bristol.

First is Bristol University http://www.bris.ac.uk although it does some medical-related courses, none of them appear to be nursing/midwifery ones.

Second is the University of the West of England http://www.uwe.ac.uk/ this appears to have a lot of nursing related courses such as Adult Nursing, Contemporary Midwifery and Midwifery.

Further information on the two midwifery courses are here:
http://info.uwe.ac.uk/courses/viewCourse.asp?URN=14080&stream=
http://info.uwe.ac.uk/courses/viewCourse.asp?URN=13921&stream=

All courses at both universities can be seen by looking at their online prospectuses.

Hope that helps!

My wife studied at Bath Spa University and they were absolutely great, but I'm not sure if they do the subject that you're looking for.

As you are only travelling nationally I think your drivers licence will be fine.
