Guys, please help! I use 2 HDD on my windows XP pc, 1 which holds the OS and all program files, and the other 1 all my Documents and Files. Ok, so I formatted my OS hdd today, because windows was giving me a hard time and slow loading times. So, I checked that I had all my documents on my 2nd Hard drive. Just to be extra sure that I dont accidentaly format my Document drive, I completely removed it during the format process. Everything went fine. When XP finished installing, I replaced the Data HDD and windows picked it up. Now, the 1 folder which contains all my stuff on the HDD, is gone! It shows that I used 180gb on that drive, but the files that are visible (and hidden) only make up 8gb. . . This is not good!

I know I linked this folder to windows, so that when you open My Computer and select My Documents, it goes to the other HDD folder. I don't know if this had anything to do with it! When I try to create a new folder with that name, windows says it already exists! HELP PLZ!

Losing data on a hard drive is the worst nightmare of any computer owner. However, some RAM/hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful

I think it is because of the mounted volume. You should take out your data disk and connect it to another computer and see if you can find all your data.
If you do not have access to another computer. Then take out your data disk. Keep only the windows hard disk in the computer, and do another format and installation. It will remove the incomplete mount information from your system. And the computer will identify your data disk as another hard disk when you connect it after installation.

right click on the my computer and then click on the manage, the click on the disk managemant which is on the left side, on the right side it will show if the second hard drive is detected, if it is detected make sure it is installed, if not right click and click on install, do not click on the format coz it will delete every thing,

in case after the installing the files not detected, then u have to contact the local tech coz he will have the data recovery tool, if u r in us u can contact the drive saver,

I think windows is hiding it. Check on "view hidden files and folders" and try again.
