I read somewhere that the upcoming generation has been termed "The Monster Generation" due to their lack of respect for elders, constant demands for instant gratification, terrible tantrums etc. Reasons behind this are the general consumerist attitude, parents not having enough time for their kids and so overcompensating with money and so on.

Or you could like at the effects of globalization on youth everywhere....they're rapidly becoming more homogenous, regardless of their own nationality. While this is true of older generations, its more pronounced now.

Another option is to look at specific issues: the rise of the blog, IM, the myspace / youtube culture, how earphones seem to have become part of the body with either ipods or other players plugged in constantly etc.

Spending habits,/money management. Yes for youth. What they are doing now will make as large an impact on their future and on the country they live in as almost anything.

The lack of parenting skills in their parents. That's where it all starts. Sorry, it's true. Some people can't be bothered with their own kids and leave it up to schools, social workers, whatever. Every parent has a responsibility for their own children.

School bullying.

Because it affects every teen at some point in their lives, even if they don't admit it.

The rising ferocity of bullying and the increasing apathy of schools is an issue worth addressing with today's youth.

My documentary would have three lines, one would be running in the UK the second one in Belgium the third one in Italy. Then perhaps it would shed some light to why we have this sort of trouble here whilst other European kids can behave.

How much our society has contributed to the problems in today's kids. I'm talking about the violence, the drugs, the drinking etc etc.
I'd like to know too, the effect of working mothers who are too busy in the evenings cleaning, cooking, shopping etc to pay any attention to their children.
Kids are neglected. We don't value them enough and we don't invest in their emotional welfare.

SELF INJURY AWARENESS, MENTAL ILLNESS, ETC!!!
an important and somewhat fatal problem in the youth of today, often goes unrecognised!
this is serious, it often results in death and it isnt fair! we need help! we need respect! we DONT NEED LABELS!!!
i am 17 and i am always labelled 'emo' and i HATE it!!!

there are many issues in the youth of the nation but i personally find this the most devastating and the one most in need of being addressed publicly! i know its a depressing topic and people try to forget it, but it needs to be addressed! WE NEED HELP!

I would start with various Government bureaucrats as to why schools and parents are not allowed to give them a damn good hiding! Most of them need it. A bit of discipline goes a long way.

I'd look at the parents to see how they interact (are they always nagging and disrespecting the teens?), the teachers and the school and the ways they talk to the kids, the movies adults make for kids and the way in which society in general looks at teens. How you raise them, treat them, respect and value them will be reflected in their responses, i.e. lifestyle.
