never mind all this "bleeding" rubbish, it's just a radiator and the noise is caused by expansion/contraction. Ignore it.

Why is it that whenever some one has a heating problem the same people rush in with 'Bleed the radiator' as the cure for every problem?? You appear to have a few sensible answers here, it's the hot water expanding the steel radiator as it heats up. Some are worse than others and it could also be 'creaking' on its bracket, give it a nudge and it might help! It could also be the pipes at each end where they come through the floor, if they are tight they will creak as well, you may be able to ease them slightly.

Aha, had same problem here..tried everything including encompassing the idea about metal E&C. However, this E&C did not make sense as this noise had only recently started after years of noise free service.
Solution had the thermostat replaced on radiator........ viola no more irritating clicking sound. Check this out first...give the thermostat a swift thump it may just do the trick. There is little pin inside the thermostat that moves up and down and sometimes it can stick with the heat.
Here's to Christmas of clicking free radiators.....men don't appear to worry about these sorts of things...just as long as they're fed and watered.
EDIT Other cheaper solution of course, is,use..Ear Plugs!

It is because the radiator is expanding is it gets hot, it probably "clicks" as it cools down also. The clicks are not internal to the radiator and may be caused as the radiator tries to move against the brackets holding it on the wall, try easing the radiator off the brackets by lifting it slightly and then letting it settle back onto them it again. The noise may also be caused by pipes close to the radiator being restricted.

okay, it already sounds like you know what you are doing. suggestion, since it is the furthest from the boiler you are correct to bleed it for air first. now even though the other radiators seem to be alright bleed them all until you are getting hot water out of them all. starting with the furthest from the boiler. now i am going on the assumption your system is forced hot water. if is steam call a professional heating man. hint always wear a pair of rubber gloves so you don't get scourhed. safety first, good luck

The radiator is supported on metal brackets on the wall, the radiator hooks on. There should be little moulded plastic bits that work as spacers, often these break over time. Try your local plumbing /heating store (not DIY store) they may help

Mine does exactly the same. It keeps me awake all night, clicking away every time the timer switches on. I had a plumber come out to fix it who told me that it is just down to the pipes expanding after the summer months. It lasted a couple of months before the noise disappeared. Well, until the next winter. Think you have to grin and bear it. Oh, the plumber still charged me 40.00 call out fee too!!!!!!!!

Incongru has the reason spot on , it's the expansion of the metal as the radiator gets hot.
It's common and nothing to worry about.
Ignore the other comments about bleeding the radiators.

mine does that too !!! been told that it's the sound of the metal pipes expanding and contracting as the radiator heats up and then cools.... it's annoying, but not dangerous. to be honest, i've got used to mine doing it now...... only thing i can suggest is that u change the timer on your boiler so that it doesn't switch on so early.
