Ear candles are a safe way to go - buy a Hopi candle, insert end into ear and light (other) end..! Wait till the flame gets down to the line and remove, put it out and look inside at the wax it has drawn up from your ear canal - yuk! It is pleasantly warming and you don't have to put anything chemical into your ear either.
Good luck - can you hear me now??!

My sister has exactly the same problem at the moment - she was advised by her doctor to pour a teaspoon of warm (not hot!!!) olive oil in her ear morning and evening, keeping her head so that the affected ear was uppermost for 5 mins or so to let the oil soak in (probably easiest to lie down). Then sit back upright with a tissue on hand to mop up any oil/wax that drains from the ear.

The theory is that the warm oil softens the wax and seeps through it, and then remains liquid even when the wax starts to re-solidify when it all cools again, and the oil then washes the wax out of the ear. It may take a few days to fully clear the ear though, as it can only do a little bit at a time.

There are ear drops that you can get from the chemist too, but she was advised to try the olive oil first as it is gentler on the ear.

put a couple of drops of warn olive oil into the ear twice a dy, lie with your head to the side to elp it stay in for a little while, do not put cotton wool into the ear as this will just soak up te oil. This will help to soften the wax and if it is still blocked after two weeks go to the dr's as it may need syringing. There are also things called hopi candles especially for ear wax which you put in the ear and light !! health food shops may sell them or a natural remedy practitioner may do this for you, they are supposed to be very effective. Many of the over the counter remedies such as otex or audiclean are pretty ineffective.

lie down on a folded towel
put a capful of hydrogen pyroxide in the ear
....wait till the bubbles subside
then turn over and do the other ear

draw a basin full of warm water (place finger in to check)
then take a bubble syringe ($2) and fill up - get all the air out
place inside ear canal - and squish it hard

and watch the crud come out - rinse each ear out twice -
then place a little alcohol in the ear to dry it out

or a few drops of 1/2 alcohol 1/2 white vinegar
this will dry the water and kill any fungus

good luck

If the problem is that your ear feels blocked or full, then this is more likely due to a drop of pressure in the inner ear than to wax.

try warm olive oil just put a couple of drops in your ear and massage do this for a couple of days and the wax should be easier to clear. the doctors told me to do this for my daughter first before they considered syringing and it worked.

The smallest thing you should put in your ear is your elbow! Go the chemist who can recommend one of several types of ear drops that will clear the problem in a couple of days.

'micheal b' has very little faith in our medical opinion, but I had the same problem, my solution was to fill the ear with concentrated washing up liquid and then I placed a suction pump ( normally used to unblock the sink drain) over the ear, I gave it a couple of pumps and the blockage was cleared.
I admit my ear drum burst and it hurt, I also cant hear anything with that ear, but it sure cleared the blockage!
Hope this helps??

Either go to the chemist and ask their opinion or it'll be the doc's, though they're not hot on syringing these days.

D.I.Y. chemists sell a whole range of ear wax removal solutions, I shouldn't bother your doctor with something you can do your self
