I agree! I used to rag on my friend from Iran, who was okay until it came to how Muslims treated women. He CLAIMED the chador was "for their protection" and showed respect, but I never bought it!
I told him it was just to keep other guys from ogling them, so the petty, inferiority-ridden husbands/fathers, etc., could feel in control and superior.
That "reasoning" for women covering" (which, by the way, even extends into Catholicism and Orthodox Judaism), is just another way to oppress women...it does NOT give freedom or respect. It's BULLSH***!
Still, I TOTALLY DISAGREE w/those who say women should be forced to take off their head-coverings! How is THAT any different from the oppression they already endure?
They NEED to move away from male-dominated cultures. (How 'bout Canada?)

The question presupposes that all western societies had todays dress code all these centuries.. Carefully read the Holy bible and you will hear plenty of references to Tunics and other such dresses which are nothing but Burqa in other language. They are a necessity in the harsh desert conditions. Even the atandard habits for christian Nuns and the cassocks for the male priests emerged from the same need. Don't use vituperative language against others when our ancestors were also using the same dress. The obsession with imagining what is behind the burqa is the product of the exposing culture.

Thats true man mee to against that system...
Why should they be restricted but when they are allowed they leave no stone unturend to show their assets..
Man has a inborn tendency to see women with sexual desires. Because they have hot blood runnin all the time and they are on high all the time. If this hadnt been the case man wouldnt have evolved . Evolution took place cos man took charge. Allgood things come with side effects he became more possive about his lady and wanted no one except him to see them. Like u donot want to show ur gold bricks to any body..
Am not supporting the idea of Burka but lettin u know it is just a side effect and can be easily taken care off

Yes it should be banned.
Islam has two sects. The two have minor differences. My sect does not wear the burka, I cover my hair only (wide clothes as well). I believe that I should not hide my face, it will appear as if I'm not satisfied with what God gave me. I am happy with my face, praise the Almighty Lord for such mercy. I hope U don't believe that its obligatory in Islam. If anyone tell U so, ask for the verse in the Quran about the face cover factor. What can U do to narrow minded fanatics.

I think that people should show their face in public places. It should not be allowed to cover the face in public places, for security reasons and for the sake of revealing one's identity, especially when talking to officials. So I do think that the burqa should be banned in public places in the West, as it covers the face. I have no problem with people covering the rest of the body as they wish.
I agree with you that it makes no sense to make women cover up because of men's weaknesses. Women should not be ashamed of being seen and they should not have to hide themselves their whole life. They should be free and should be allowed to wear what they want as long as it doesn't go against public interest (which the burqa does, but not veils). Of course there are women who actually WANT to wear veils and that stuff and that's fine by me, as long as it's THEM who want it without being forced into it.
