Humans! We tend to focus on the negative things. When something bad happens, we keep talking about it. We seldom talk about the positive/happy things that happen to us (which there are many). That's the reason why.

People seem to enjoy learning of the strange, the unusual, the dark happenings, the great difficulties when those things are connected to or suffered by other people. The ordinary, the wonderful, the finer pleasures of those same others can invoke jealousy, or just appear quite off-putting to folks wishing to feel better about themselves.

Just look at the news media. 99% or more news is all 'bad' in one way or another, isn't it? Guess there is a lot to the old saying, 'No news is good news'.
