On Friday I was offered a full time role in a call centre at Birmingham Midshires, and the start date is in January.

However, I am planning to go abroad for a holiday, with the rest of the family in mid February for about 3 weeks - ideally this would be made up of 2 weeks plus 1 week from the half term holidays from school.

Do you think it is a good idea to go in February considering the fact that I would have only started on this new job in January? Do you think my new employer would be sympathetic to my request for these holidays?

Is anyone aware of any laws regarding taking vacation?

Like others have said your new employer will honour the time off as long as they know about it before you start your new position. If you have not started yet, give them a call and explain in all the excitement you forgot to mention it, make sure you have the exact dates to give them, it shouldn't really be a problem. They will probably only pay you holiday pay that you have accrued up until Feb which is probably just a day! Let them know ASAP

Share this idea with your new boss as you try to understand him more. Be keen not to be doubted in your new area of work. Am sure he will direct you in the best way. If by the time you are through with the discusion, he will be of the point that you go, well and good but if not dear just go by his ideas. Your job once lost you are not sure of another but a holiday you can spare cash and plan it even when you plan to get your annual leave at an appropriate time of your taste.

It,s probably not the best time to go on holiday ,If i was you i would not tell your new job that you will be going on holiday,get someone to call you in sick

speak to the new employer, as far as i know they have to honour any previously booked holidays as long as they know before you start the job. but they don't have to pay any holiday pay for it.
but i would speak to them asap
