I get the following error message: A norton internet security account with supervisor access must be logged in to uninstall this product. If norton internet security is not running, click the start menu, select norton internet security and log in. Setup will now exit.

I have those priveleges. I installed the software. Any ideas?

Yep, here's what you need:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip.nsf/docid/2004101207033236?Open&docid=2003082915490436&nsf=nip.nsf&view=docid&pid=2004092711224136&pkb=nip

If that doesn't work, you may need to use The Norton Removal Tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip.nsf/docid/2006091117530336?Open&docid=2003082915490436&nsf=nip.nsf&view=docid&pid=2004092711224136&pkb=nip

I recommend trying the first option before resorting to the Norton Removal Tool. Good luck. Let me know how it turns out.

First remove it from startup.
start > run. type msconfig. press ok. click on Startup tab. Locate and Uncheck Norton and symantec. press apply. press ok. press restart to reboot. Check box and press ok after reboot.

1)Now try to uninstall Norton.
2) If it does not, then boot in safe mode. Either by pressing F8 during restart.or
http://yanswers.blogspot.com/2006/10/boot-in-safe-mode-in-windows-xp-laptop.html

Try to uninstall in safe mode.

3) If still it does not get uninstalled , then download a registry cleaner RegScrubXP.
http://www.sofotex.com/RegScrubXP-download_L7528.html
downlod + install + run it.
When you get in the software window.
Click on user defined problems button.
It will display all entries in windows registry under different categories. So scroll down the list till you reach a category company. In this category look at the names in full key, and Main key. If you locate the name there, then check the box in front
of its entry and press the button Fix selected entries.
It should remove the entry from the registry.

After that run ccleaner.
