like methane or hydrogen. I understand that this isn't true, but if you lit a match in a room with a 100% O2 atmosphere, would the match simply flare up much bigger than normal, or would there be an explosion?

Although it may seem counter-intuitive, if the room were filed with pure hydrogen or natural gas, you couldn't light a match at all since there's no oxygen to support burning...

flare up bigger than normal..
oxygen is not flammable..but the presence of it is needed for combustion

CH4 + 2O2 --> CO2 + 2H2O

with burning in atmosphere, the flame is smaller because of incomplete burning,*there is only about 21% of oxygen in atmosphere..

On Earth with an atmosphere about 1/4 oxygen it contributes about 50:50 to a flame with a "flammable substance. On a planet, like Jupiter with a predominately reducing atmosphere of methane and Hydrogen any oxygen gas formed would be flammable and compounds containing enough combined oxygen would burn in the reducing atmosphere.

You would get an almost instant burning of the match in an 100% oxygen atmosphere but there would be no explosion of the atmosphere. You can experimentally test this in a lab with a glass bottle filled with oxygen and then drop a lighted match in it.

Its a matter of semantics as both an oxidizer and a reducer are needed for a flame. We have here on Earth designated as flammable any substance that "burns" in air.

an explosion. a big one pure o2 is flammable how El's does a oxygen acetylene torch work and that is how 2 astronauts dead in the missions to space they filled the capsule with pure o2 and they burned alive

there will be NO EXPLOSION since oxygen is not flamable but only a supporter of combustion
the burning will be much faster but no explosion since oxy only will support the combustion of the match but not burn itself

well I know in the hospital, it has a warning sign on the cannisters.. I frankly dont plan on testing it out or not..
