I have been told it will cost me £70 to get the coat cleaned which is more than I payed for it in the beginning. I want to clean the coat myself but i'm not sure how or with what chemicals? It is cream in colour and the cuffs have become grubby looking.

I had a suede jacket cleaned at the dry cleaners and it only cost £25.00. They did a brilliant job, then I protected it with Waterstop which keeps it looking good.

A nubuck cloth will remove some of the dirt bu if it is really greasy round the collar and cuffs it is best dry cleaned.

Solvents or wet cleaning will make matters worse

You could try using a "suede cleaner" - reports have been good!

hehehehehehehe

Seriously though, sometimes a suede cleaner can flatten the 'pile' of a suede item.

Sounds drastic - but a really hard scrub with a nailbrush (in the optimum direction of course) will lift the pile back up again.

You could try holding it in the steam of a boiling kettle. But I would ask at a dry cleaners. I'm sure it won't be £70

Best to fork out the money for professional cleaning. But, you could try holding grubby bits near a steaming kettle. Or leave the whole coat in the bathroom when its really steamy. , but really that only freshens it up. Proff. cleaning best in the long run. Good luck and buy a black one next time HAHA

It shouldn't cost that much to be cleaned. Try another cleaners. You probably shouldn't try to do it yourself though as it's easy to ruin these things. When you get it cleaned you can buy cheap sprays which protect the fabric.

Suede is one of those materials that loses color extremely easily, hence weather-proofing it or when you do dry clean it, they have to remove the color, clean, then reapply the color, which is why it's so expensive. But, it's worth it, most anything else will ruin it.

Use a soft brush (like a dishbrush) and dampen it with black tea (PG Tips or whatever) and brush the suede clean - but make sure you don't soak it - then hang it up to dry.
