What poles are used to reflect the numbers and how impartial are they? Secondly: are the people polled aware of the reason for arms ownership being included in the Constitution?

If our defense be the real object of having arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands?

People who object to weapons aren't abolishing violence, they're begging for rule by brute force, when the biggest, strongest animals among men were always automatically 'right.' Guns ended that, and republicanism is a hollow farce without an armed populace to make it work.

Polls are meaningless in terms of expressing Americans interests. As another responder noted, the polls about guns tend to be run by Liberals and their media allies and are slanted to provide the 'answers' the Liberals want.

Short of changing the Constitution, It is not possible to write a legal law that prevents the law abiding American from owing a firearm. (Note the term 'legal'. There are many instances in America where local and state Liberals have created anti-gun laws. All over America those laws have been found illegal and they have been set aside. The trend continues.)

Where law abiding Americans are free to own and carry firearms, there you will find very little crime. Criminals go where there victims abound. That would be areas where guns are prohibited.

Two more thoughts on the humor side of this question:
What is the next to the last thing a rapist wants to hear? 'Stop or I'll Shoot!'
What is the last thing the rapists wants to hear? Bang!

The right for the militia to keep and bare arms is just the title to the second amendment of the Constitution. What they do not want you to know is who the Militia is:

As stated in the constitution the Militia is every able bodied male eighteen years of age or older! Do per the constitution every able bodied male eighteen and older is in the militia.

The second amendment also covers the militia not being put under command of a foreign government. That is why Ike was made supreme Allied commander in Europe during WWII.

Another little item in the second amendment is that the militia will furnish their own arms. Bet you didn't know that! You pay for your rifle, uniforms and equipment. It is taken out of your pay check the first two years you are in the military. that is why after you have been in you get a automatic pay raise. It is not a pay raise! You have gotten your rifle and equipment paid for.

I didn't know that until I was helping one of the men in my outfit study for his American citzenship.

As far as the so called liberal news media: They are more the stupid moron new media. The dumb a***ses don't realize they will be the some of the first in front of a firing squad.

The polls themselves may be impartial, but the results (I think) are swayed by the media's influence on people's opinions. Most of the media is liberal and very anti-gun ownership, so they influence people's opinions accordingly.

The gun ownership rights crowd makes some VERY compelling arguments, but unfortunately, they are not typically reported by the liberal media. The media, as with so many other issues, tend to give us only one side of the story with regard to guns.

For instance, the media will not tell you that the overwhelming vast majority of murders by gun are drug-related. In other words, they don't tell you that if you don't get yourself involved in illegal drugs, your chances of being shot to death are extremely low -- much lower than the slanted liberal "statistics" would suggest.

They also don't tell you that guns in the hands of private citizens are at least four times more likely to be used to PREVENT or STOP crimes, than they are to be used to commit crimes.

And, they tell you how many "kids" are killed with a gun every day -- without bothering to mention that nearly all of these "kids" are actually teenage gang members.

Not that these murders don't count -- all murders are tragic -- but it does suggest that there's more at play besides just the gun being there. It does suggest that if kids stay out of gangs and away from crime, they're extremely unlikely to be shot with a gun.

I have no idea why anyone would want to give up the right to bear arms. The original amendment served a dual purpose. As stated it mad it easier for the states to call form militias in times of need. The second, unstated yet still intended, purpose was to guarantee the citizenry the ability to resist the government if it turned tyrannical.

I don't know if a reputable poll has ever asked that specific question ("Do you want to abolish personal firearms?"). And certain polls could interpret answers and statistics to their own side.

However, unbiased polling companies such as Gallup have consistently found the majority of Americans favor registration of handguns (and have since the question was first asked back in 1938).

I don't know what the percentage is. Everyone I talk to knows about our right to bear arms, but our government doesn't seem to care about our rights.

If our arms are abolished, the only ones with arms will be criminals. That would also open the door to communism.

Take away the right to bare arms and your setting up the country for a dictatorship government. When the people are unable to defend themselves the only thing you have left is a squelched mouth they can shut up.
