Put the new harddrive as the master and load the operating system onto it. Put the old hard disk as the slave and copy the data from the old hard drive to the new one. In case you are trying to copy the old hard drive contents completely onto the new hard drive so that the new hard drive simply boots on your PC without loading the OS, then, you would be wasting your time as it will never work.
