I hooked up a wireless mouse, (not sure if that caused the problem because I used it before), but when I returned to my computer about 5 minutes later, I had a display on it that said my computer just recovered from a serious problem. It said for me to send or not send error report. BIG MISTAKE. I shut off the computer instead of closing the messages first, I took NO action, just shut it off. NOW when I turn it on, I see the power button come on and hear the fan running but other than that, I HAVE NOTHING. I hooked the original mouse back up but still no monitor or keyboard, nothing other than seeing the lights flash for a second. ALSO, the only way I can turn the computer off now is with the power button ON THE BACK. The switch on front is not doing anything either. PLEASE- PLEASE HELP!. Did I burn out the processor or motherboard just because I shut it off without first clicking on the X on the error message? It is a Hewlett / Packard W/windows xp pro. THANK-YOU !!!!

I think every thing is OK.
If you see nothing on monitor than reinstall the AGP Card, RAMs into the motherboard.
Check each connections into the motherboard and reinstall Windows.
Hope it will solve the problem other wise you will have to visit a technician.
Good Luck!

Do you have more than one user account on your machine?

If I remember rightly, when a Windows XP computer comes on, it starts with a black screen, like a screen-saver. Its only when you move the mouse, that the 'screen-saver' black screen goes away and the computer shows the icons for differerent people's accounts or if there is only one user, goes straight to displaying the desktop. Since you can't wiggle the mouse to cancel the screen saver, you can achieve the same thing by pressing a key, such as the space-bar or shift-key. This should get you to the desktop.

The next issue is how to get the computer to recognise the right type of mouse again. You can go to Start button, settings, control panel, Add Hardware, detect new hardware and follow the instructions on the screens that it displays. It should detect your mouse automatically and install drivers for it. It should let the computer know that one type of mouse has gone and the other type is back. It will uninstall and install driver programs as necessary. The drivers are already on your computer, so you shouldn't need a CD or anything.

I hope this helps.

Open your cabinet and switch on your PC. If a green light glows on your motherbaord, then your motherbaord is generally ok. If the CPU fan is not functioning, then this is the defaulter since, it will simply overheat your CPU and the system will not start. Hence change the fan. If the fan is OK, then take out the RAM and clean the carbon off its contacts. If this also doesnot work, then, your dislay card is faulty. If it an add on card, then replace the dispolay card. If it is an onboard video, then, goto BIOS disable the onboard video and put an add on video card. If this also does not work and you can goto the C:\ prompt by booting it from a floppy, then format your windows partition and install the OS. If nothing above works for you, then you are in serious trouble. Go to the ATM, take out plenty of cash and goto the nearest service centre to get your PC checked / repaired / upgraded.

Try removing the power lead from the PC for 60 seconds to allow the PC to fully discharge itself. Check all connections but especially the one going to your monitor. Plug the power lead back in and start the PC. If your PC still refuses to start you may need to reset the bios. Try the HP website for support and advice on doing this.

ok, open your pc box.
1. check if your ram is properly plug in place.
2. check all cables and plugs(from your hardrive to the motherboard etc)(just push them and ensure they are in correctly) because sometimes they just work their way loose.
3. Then boot up. If scandisk option comes up - run scandisk.
Your pc will go off if you keep the power button in for more than 5 secs.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
