associated press. meaning some one else wrote it other than the people at that particular newspaper.

It stands for Associated Press if you're talking about the news and articles. If you're talking about CLASSES as in "AP English," then it stands for Advanced Placement aka college-level courses taken in high school for college credits.

since you mention news articles it has to mean "associated press" they are crediting where they got their information. In the business world it means "accounts payable" (the bills that need paid)
