if judging by tradition and prestige it's gotta be Notre Dame and USC. I would think that national championships count more than winning percentage, right? Dominating your own conference dosen't translate into national dominance. Michigan and Ohio State have a total of 14 national championships.

Man, thats a tough question. Almost tied...
I would have to say Notre Dame vs USC. This game is a tradition full of class and talent. No matter how much of an underdog one of the teams is, they step up.
Last years game has to be in the top three of the best college football games I have ever watched.

UN vs. OSU hands down.... Notre Dame is an independant college that plays the likes of Army and Navy and others which have been historically weak programs (no offence to Army or Navy- I like the rivalry of Army-Navy game!). The Big Ten, Pac 10 and the Big 12 have been the tougher conferences so USC has a tough schedule like OSU and UM....

meeeechiGONE has won 10 national championships, and The Ohio State University Buckeyes have won 7 national championships. In californication I guess your dual language school systems teach you that 10 plus 7 equals 14?
Sure, winning national championships is the ultimate measure of college football programs, EVEN THOUGH the NCAA doesn't RECOGNIZE ANY national championships before the Bull Crap System!!!! - - Geez we NEED a playoff system in div 1-A NCAA football NOW!!!!
I do not believe that Notre Dame, (who I like as a second team to my BUCKEYES) has played as tough a schedule down through the YEARS as they would have if they were in The Big Ten, obviously!!! The same could be said of USC, who had little opposition to their DOMINANCE of the Pacified 10 down through the YEARS; and of alabama, who DOMINATED the southLeastern down through the YEARS...
Next to Ohio State v. meeechiGONE, YES USC v. Notre Dame IS the best rivalry in college football.
In MY opinion.
GO BUCKEYES!!!!!!!!!!!1

I'd have to say Michigan-Ohio State because it's a border battle. Notre Dame-USC is "contrived" in that the two schools aren't natural rivals and only became so after having success separately.

The UM-OSU rivalry is usually for a championship every year, USC-ND is not as ND is independent and it's a non-conference game for USC. So the outcome is usually meaningless except for bragging rights. ND has the fewest trophies of a major university.

Ohio-Michigan. I deal in the ever-present NOW. The past is dead and only looks good on fire mantles.
