Definitely for the fun! You should check out my question "How old do you think I am" and all the wonderful answers following! That's why I'm here. To hell with the points.
I am currently bouncing between level one and level two because I refuse to keep my big mouth shut. I have, like, fourteen EMails from Yahoo congratulating me on reaching level two. They actually say "whoo-hoo" in them. So don't be sad, some people just answer questions all day and never ask any.

I'm here a fair bit with a very slow connection, since I'm a retired 48 year old beach bum, still living on a beach in the Philippines.
I actually do this to help people, well 75% of the time.
The other 25% is divided between the harassment of people who don't write the Queen's English and replying to silly religious questions, since I'm an English scholar and an agnostic.
Hope that helps.

I enjoy visiting here in spite of the occasional maligned folks but even that's interesting. As far as the point system I suppose it's necessary but nothing to get obsessed about. People should know enough to give it a rest sometime and move on to other endeavors. Hope they know that there is life after computer.

LOL definately here for the fun of it. Sometimes I just look at the questions and see peoples answers, never answer any myself. And yea I don't think I'm gonna make it to being a points leader. Sometimes ??? just don't interest me enough to answer them, so I don't. I look at some peoples scores and think ya I might have that score in 5 years maybe more lol

I don't care about the points or the levels.
My computer is in the living room (where the television is as well), and at night I have them both on. Since these days I can't find much that interests me on television I sometimes take time out of doing something else (either on the computer or not) and answer some questions.
As someone who has done freelance writing in the past, and who is thinking of doing some more, I have found that answering questions is good exercise when it comes to writing about any subject "on demand" (rather than writing only about what "inspires" me).
Also, when television isn't great; and since I get whatever needs to be done during the day, my nights are free for the computer if I want. I do find that trying to come up with a decent answer to someone's dilemma or question gets my mind off my own "little self" and kind of gets me thinking about stuff other than my own stuff. Particularly when young people have serious questions, I find it can feel kind of good to try to offer the best answer I can come up with.
Some people do crossword puzzles, some people play video games, some people crochet, etc. This is just another form of having some little thing to do either to take a break from work or else while television is on or else while listening to music.
Don't jump to conclusions and feel sad about people who use this site for whatever length of time they do. I have a plenty-full life, a family, a home in a nice neighborhood, and several "legitimate" projects I work on. I've spent several years researching and documenting some very serious material. So, it is precisely because I have so much to be doing and thinking about in my own life that I enjoy taking a break from things and just doing something for no particular reason other than that it is entertaining for a while.
I'm actually someone who never can sit and just relax and do nothing. My version of relaxing evenings (or late nights) is to be doing some legitimate work/business online, having the television on, having some laundry in, maybe having a cranberry bread in the oven or else something on the stove for tomorrow's casserole, and then - while I'm doing whatever else - throwing in a little entertainment for myself. Even when it comes to entertainment, though, I find that trying to maybe help someone is so much more useful than doing something like crossword puzzles.
When I read I won't "waste time" by reading fiction. I read reference materials. My point is there are people who just kind of multi-task and make the best and most purposeful use of even their free time.
I have kids in college, a cat, a house and yard to take care of, projects and work, friends and relatives to socialize with, writing to be done, bills to be paid, etc. etc. I have the television on at night and talk radio on during the day, and sometimes I put music on as well. I've got phones and back-up phones and keep three or more windows up on the computer screen at all times. You know that saying about how if someone wants to get something done they should ask a busy person? (I even get far more outdoor exercise than the average adult.)
If you ever sit and talk on the phone for hours or watch videos or play video games or do puzzles or sit and just watch television without doing other things at the same time, figure up the time you use up just doing those things and not doing something else. There's probably nobody telling you that since you sit and watch videos for x number of hours its sad. Chances are it isn't sad. Its your business and your choice of how to spend whatever free time you may have.
I have spent most of my adult life almost driven when it comes to concentrating on a certain area of science, and over the last few months I've finally had the chance to kind of take a rest and do something kind of silly. I downloaded a Hello Kitty and a Sponge Bob game to my cell phone (as part of my second childhood apparently) too.
Don't feel too sad for people on here. You may be surprised at who is actually on here or at what their reasons are for being on here.
This is also a great site for when a person has a ton of things being printed on the other computer.

This is fun...some of these people are very angry, lame, or brainwashed though. Yikes ...double yikes. It sort of sounds like the ones with a lot of points make you feel dumb. What do you care?
