Low maintenance means it does not require a lot to keep you happy or satisfied.

High maintenance means a person has to exert a lot of effort in order to keep you satisfied.

I try to aim for lower maintenance, myself.

Well, usually its a term used to describe the level or amount of effort it takes for someone to make their partner happy or content. Someone who is high maintenance would require a lot of attention by the other partner...other high mat. examples include someone who requires a lot of money, good food, clothes...etc etc...a low maitence person is content with themselves and the situation and does not require a lot from the other person in the relationship in that regard

If someone is considered to be high maintenance it means they require a lot of attention, like my wife (who just walked into the room and asked me what I was doing).

For low maintenance it probably means that you dont and they dont have to invest a lot into your personality. You probably dont need a lot to be amused or to have fun.

There is no such thing as a slight or general personality disorder. They are diagnoses given to people who have major problems interacting with others and no stronger/more treatable diagnosis can be given. As for bipolar, there are 3 types of bipolar disorder ranging in severity and presentation, as well as other disorders and personality disorders which can present the same symptoms. It sounds to me like you should find a more permanent psychiatrist to help treat you.

it has to do with attention. generally low maintenence is better because you don't require a lot of attention of gifts. my boyfriend tells me i'm high maintenence because i need a lot of attention, gifts and he has to do a lot for me.
