both due the fact that each generation starts new is regressive but as we build upon history we advance hence experience is the best teacher especially for a head start to an advanced future

Regression into the worst forms of modern behaviour and the worst forms of traditional behaviour. I am both a modernist and a traditionalist. We have no reason to be destroying our environment and nuclear proliferation is damaging the world. By threatening traditional cultures through globalization and Westernization, we are threatening ourselves. There is more drug use, more of a disparity between the wealthy and the poor, more homelessness, and other social ills. Yet we do not deal with the very real effects of poverty, lack of money into social programs, violence in society, mental illness, the war in Iraq and other pressing issues.

I agree with postmodernism - we are neither advancing nor regressing. We just go around in circles. What some would call an advance, others would call regression. For example, some believe if Australia goes ahead with nuclear power for electricity, it is evidence of progress. Others believe it is regression.

Advancing technologically, and in terms of knowledge for sure.
I'm not sure you could use the word regressing for the civic side of life and society in general cos that would imply that we're reverting to a past version of society where it was as rubbish as it is today, and quite honestly I can't think of a previous era where things were quite so bad as they are today in terms of our knoweldge and ability vs our use of those things to allow every member of mankind to live on this planet in a way which makes us happy and pleasent as people. Hands up people who think the world's running the right way and we're all living as we're meant to be?! No-one hm?

it depends on what area you are talking about. technologically we are certainly advancing. we have advanced more and faster in the last 100 years than the whole rest of time combined.
but morally speaking, we are for sure regressing, and at an alarming rate. just look at the simple way that children are to their teachers and parents. it's acceptable behavior by so many for them to be extremely disrespectful, which never used to be the case. crime is more accepted and less punished. things that used to be taboo are now 'normal' and we have built such a mask of "tolerance" that it is wrong for anybody to be told what they do is bad or wrong. it's definitely going downhill.

Regressing totally beacause people are getting more and moe selfish and less and less community spirited. All the values of life itself is degenerating thus ple loosing respect for each other and even themselves. What society can improve when basic values and respect are lossed? And Most important-it is regressing because there is no love-everything good comes from love.
