The others are right, the mirror can be used to enhance fighting capabilities and fish strength, but it should not be there all the time, or indeed every day. The fish doesn't recognise the reflection as being that of itself, it just sees another fish - and its behaviour is aggressive and territorial.
While some people consider it 'fun' to see them fighting all the time, it wears the fish out and is detrimental to its long-term wellbeing. Mine go ballistic when I feed them, and that's pretty much all the excitement they need.
Get some plants to keep it happy, my solitary fish love the snails in the tank. Keep it happy and active, but don't torment it by thinking its home is being challenged all the time.
Think about it as: the more it attacks the more the 'other fish' attacks. The 'other fish' only backs down when he backs down. The 'other fish' is just as powerful and agressive as he is. He can never outdo this 'other fish'. That's got to be pretty stressful.
If you want to show someone how colorful your fish is or think he needs some activity put the mirror up, otherwise remove it or keep it covered most of the time.

It will just make your fish more aggressive and enhance its color and growth. Its a very popular process to enhance show quality betta, you can do it. By no way it shall harm your fish but try to cover the mirror with some decoration to give the fish rest at times.

Actually I think it's pretty hilarious! It's comical, it's like seeing a dog run around chasing it's own tail. They'll give up and take a rest. But in all seriousness. It really doesn't do much harm. They have divider tanks where you can put a Betta on each side of the divider and the Bettas can see eachother. Fish Manufacturers wouldn't do that if it would harm the fish. But give your Betta a plant so it can rest atop of it and l agree with the other person, putting a background around your tank sides and back will help reduce the flare ups.... Take Care & Good Luck!

Bettas are fighting fish, so to see its reflection it sees another betta...needless to say that if you are using a mirror it will try to kill its self hitting the glass...no mirrors and keep your males and females seperated as they will also kill each other...Take Care Dianne

it particularly is not ok. Bettas elect a minimum of one million.5 gallons - 5 gallons is so plenty extra useful. i elect to propose a ten gallon in case you elect to have your betta with corydora catfish. using fact corys are training variety fish and could desire to be in communities of a minimum of three. using fact for each inch of fish there could desire to be a minimum of one million gallon of water. Corys get extraordinarily great (4 inch, approximately). bypass to walmart and get a ten gallon tank for 13 dollars D: additionally, betta and cory fish are tropical fish meaning they could desire to be in a heated tank. around 80F.

I wouldn't think that it would be healthy for the fish to always be in fighting mode. Give it a rest sometimes. Does the mirror have to be there all the time? Take it away so he can rest.

Betta being a fighting fish its always tend to fight with others or even to their own reflections. There is no harm in keeping the mirror, to bring your betta with great fins, body structure n aggression its better to keep a mirror inside the tank.

Betta knows when to take rest n when to fight, if they were in no mood to fight, whatever way you tempt they wont fight. Sharing my personal experience in raising betta for past 15yrs.

it is not ok, they are not agressive but territorial. They will see the reflection of himself in the mirror and will not comprehend that it is just him and will attack it and hurt himself in the process, so IMO i think it is cruel to do so.
