I've always enjoyed the claymation Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman movies; The Nightmare Before Christmas (both a Halloween and Christmas favorite) has a positive message; and A Christmas Story is a personal favorite, but I believe it's PG, so you might want to watch with him.

The holiday genre is a great one for family-friendly entertainment. I personally enjoy the perennial favorite "A Christmas Story", the great "Love Actually" and the classic "It's A Wonderful Life." The two Home Alone movies, especially the Lost in New York one are good too. As for recent, modern stuff, check out "ELF", "Home For Christmas", "Jingle All The Way", "A Diva's Christmas Story", and "Comfort and Joy"...yes, this one in particular was originally a Lifetime movie, but it's actually quite entertaining. It's about a career-driven woman involved in a car accident which left her with memory loss, as she wakes up and finds out she is a wife and mother during the holidays. Hope this helps!
